Improve Your Interview Skills And Get That Job

 There are four basic types of interviews that employers will use. Arrangement interviews are individual interview or arranged as a group. Individual interview on done on a one on one basis or you will have to face a panel.

Agenda interviews are interviews where there are no set questions or a set of questions that are a like.

Focus interviews may be disorganized where the employer may ask many hypothetical questions.

Some interview may behavioral, this is where the interviewer may focus on past accomplishments from you previous employers.

The interview might be skills based where the employer will test your objective skills.

The last interview process might be where you will have to go through many interviews. The first interview is establishing your qualifications for the job. The interviews that follow will challenge your fit with the company.

Many people will try to prepare for the job interview by preparing to answer questions they think an employer will ask them. There are too many questions to prepare for. A simpler way of handling this challenge is to focus on answering a number of questions that most employer will be concerned with. Employers will be concerned with how you answer these 10 questions.

Business goals: They will want to know how you will help them increase sales, handle customer satisfaction, are you efficient and what is the quality of your work?

How do you handle time management and are you reliable: They will be concerned with your punctuality, how you handle deadlines, how you prioritize tasks, and are you willing to work flexible hours?

Are you willing to learn: How do you handle over coming your weaknesses, take criticism, and how well you learn on the job?

How do you handle initiative: Are you willing to help co-workers, are you a problem solver and do you take initiative?

Are you a team player: How do you contribute to the team, show leadership, and help co-workers?

How your people skills are: Can you get alone with different people, how do you resolve conflict with co-workers and difficult customers?
How your communication skills are: How are your listening, speaking, writing and reading skills?

How your judgment is: Do you try to avoid mistakes, do you work safe, and how do you come back when a mistake is made.

Do you have integrity: Are you fair and unbiased, do you follow rules, and are you honest?

Technical skills: Do you have the skills to do the job, how have you used those skills and what was the outcome.

If you focus on having good answers to these 10 categories you should do very will.

When an interviewer asks you a question they will want to know how you will handle these 10 basic employer concerns. When you answer their questions tell the employer which of these 10 skills you used, what action did you took, and what was the positive result that occurred after you took action. The interviewer will want to know what positive result occurred from the action you took.

When answering your interviewers questions feed your answer back to the interviewer in a short story. Any answer that shows you handled these 10 business concerns and achieved a positive result will be a successful answer.
If an interviewer asked you how you handled a conflict with a co-worker. You might respond to the interviewer by saying. There was a time when my team leader acted harshly to one of our new hires. After the incident I pulled my team leader a side and informed him or her that I felt they should have asked the new hire for help instead of rudely telling the new hire what to do, they would probable get more help from them. The result was that my team leader became more aware of the way they interacted with others.

Think about these 10 business concerns and start thinking about how you handled a situation from your previous employer. A good acronym to remember when you respond to the interviewer is to utilize the Skill, Action, Result (SAR), technique. What skill did you use, what action did you take to handle the situation and what was the positive outcome or result that was accomplished?

Try to quantify your answers as much as possible. For example if the interviewer asks what you did to meet your previous employers goals. A good response might be, I can remember a time when I helped the team exceed our goals when I discovered a better way of utilizing our software which helped us quote 12 new clients a month which resulted in P120,000 in additional premium.
