Preparing for a Job Interview – 5 Must Do’s

So, at last you received an intimation to appear for an interview tomorrow! Perhaps you have not yet learnt how to manage such occasions. So, here are some tips to help you do that.

  1. Go through the job posting you applied for and look for the key words included by the prospective employer therein. Now, build up sound bites that deal with the requirements of the employer. Devise you own answers that demonstrate you have the required skills matching the keywords in that Gensan job hiring. Expand your answers so that you take two to three minutes for each of those.
  2. Recall some situations from your previous job wherein you could prove your competence for the post you were holding. Look for instances that demonstrate your achievements. You should be able to describe precisely what you did or how you handled a particular situation. Remember, you need to highlight your contribution and not of others who might have been connected in your story.
  3. Spend time and do your research for this company. Find out if it has been in the news of late. Visit the website of the company to know more about them and think of some ideas how you could help the company if it hires you for the advertised post.
  4. Consider some questions you could ask the interviewer. It should not be difficult to think of three or four questions if you keep in mind the research that you just did for the company and the job posting you’re interested in. What makes you interested in the company? Are you already familiar with the product they manufacture or you just come to know of that through your research. Find out how long they have been in the same business and what are their current projects.
  5. And finally, prepare to answer the usual questions that nearly all employers are likely to ask you. These are:
    • Tell us about yourself.
      • Why you want to change your job or why you decided to leave your last job?
      • Why should we hire you?
    • And of course, what are your salary expectations.

Yes, that’s all there is to attending a job interview. If you break it down to its basic components, it becomes so simple. Make sure that you are well prepared for answering all those questions and you will do well. You should take care that your speech is coherent and fluent. It will help if you record your speech and find flaws to improve your talk. You may even seek help of your friend to listen to your talk and suggest how to improve upon that.
